Lingual braces are one of several orthodontic options for helping you straighten your teeth, but what exactly are they?
Put simply lingual braces are very similar to regular braces, except they’re fixed to the teeth on the inside surface closest to the tongue.
There are quite a number of brands of lingual braces including:
- Incognito® (made by by 3M)
- SureSmile® L (by OraMetrix)
- Harmony® (by American Orthodontics)
We choose to use Incognito braces at both of our Gold Coast practices because we feel that they are a superior product, which are custom made to fit your teeth.
The primary advantage with lingual braces is that they’re completely hidden from view, so if you’re looking to have treatment and don’t want it to impact your self confidence, or if you’re in a profession where you deal with people face to face (eg a sales person) then lingual orthodontic treatment might be a good option.
Lingual braces are very similar to regular braces, except they’re fixed to the teeth on the inside surface closest to the tongue.
Since the early 1990’s lingual treatment options have been a popular choice for many people who feel a little more self conscious about getting braces, or because they have a public facing career and feel that traditional braces would have a negative impact on their professional performance.
Ultimately your orthodontist will be able to advise if you are a suitable candidate for lingual braces and remember that it’s always a good idea to get advice from an orthodontist who is a specialist in the treatments you’re interested in.
