These days, when seeking orthodontic treatment you have an array of options available to you; but choosing the right option can sometimes feel confusing. So how do you decide which type of braces is right for you?

Your first step is to make an appointment with your local orthodontist for a consultation.

At your initial consultation, your orthodontist will examine and may take an x-ray of your teeth to establish how much they need to move. After the initial examination, your orthodontist will have a better idea of which treatment will be most suited to your lifestyle and will discuss your options with you. So what are your options?

At Wilkinson Orthodontics, we specialize in regular braces which consist of Metal or Self Ligating braces, Invisalign® aligners and Incognito, which are all teeth realignment treatments that will leave you smiling your best smile! Depending on your situation and lifestyle, they might recommend any one of the three treatments available; for instance, most orthodontists will recommend regular braces for children, and adults tend to opt for more inconspicuous treatments such as Invisalign aligners or Incognito!

But what’s the difference in treatments?

Regular Braces

Regular braces, otherwise known as conventional braces are made from metal wire and are secured to the front of your teeth with glue by your orthodontist. At every appointment, your orthodontist will make slight adjustments until your teeth have been perfectly realigned!

Regular braces are the most traditional method of teeth realignment which are usually recommended to young children and teens, although adults do opt for this treatment as well!

Invisalign Treatments

Invisalign treatment consists of clear plastic retainers/aligners that are individually manufactured to fit your teeth, both the top and bottom rows. Every two weeks, a new set of aligners are fitted to your teeth, making slight changes in the fit each time to progress the alignment. As the Invisalign aligners are replaced, your teeth will make small movements until the realignment is complete! Invisalign aligners do not treat all orthodontic cases as sometimes, depending on the individuals treatment requirement a more detailed individual approach is needed which regular braces can offer.

Adolescents and adults tend to prefer this treatment option as it is virtually invisible and is suited for busy work and social lives!

Incognito
